Fact: “Most living kidney donors return to normal activities within 4 to 6 weeks after surgery.” (Source: American Transplant Foundation)

There’s often concern about the recovery process after donation, but the facts are reassuring. The American Transplant Foundation states that most living kidney donors return to their normal activities within 4 to 6 weeks. This means that your life, post-donation, isn’t put on hold for months. In fact, you can resume work, family commitments, and hobbies with a relatively short break. Until I needed a transplant, I had no idea about this. The fact that living donors recover so quickly is incredible and something I thought would be worth sharing.

For me, the knowledge that donors face only a brief recovery period makes the idea of donation less daunting. I understand that the decision to donate is monumental, but knowing a donor’s life continues almost uninterrupted after the procedure gives me some reassurance because I know it’s a tremendous ask to make – to ask someone to donate to me.

If you’re reading this, know that me and my family appreciate your support. Donating isn’t an easy decision to make but even sharing this post might help me reach someone who has an interest: www.giftworksuuh.com/veronicar.

Thank you for your continued support!
