There’s a myth out there that dialysis is better than a kidney transplant, but I want to share why that’s simply not true. Dialysis can keep me alive, but it doesn’t give me the freedom and quality of life I need. I’m on peritoneal dialysis, and while it’s helping my body function, it’s exhausting, limiting, and disruptive. I have to plan my entire day around it. It’s a full-time job, and it keeps me from being the active mom I want to be for my son. A kidney transplant, especially from a living donor, offers a chance for a better future—faster recovery, better kidney function, and the ability to feel like myself again.
Living kidney donation is not only safe, but many donors go on to live long, healthy lives, and many even say they would donate again if they could. In fact, every year, 6,000 lives are saved through living kidney donation. The benefits of receiving a kidney from a living donor are clear—better kidney function, a quicker recovery, and the opportunity to regain energy and health.
If you’re considering donation or have questions, please reach out. You can visit my website and complete a contact form to speak directly with a Living Donor Navigator—a person who has donated a kidney and can offer guidance and answer your questions. Together, we can give hope to people like me who are waiting for a chance to live life fully again. www.giftworksuuh.com/amandac
