Living Donation is a Gift

When I think about what a living kidney transplant would mean for me, one word comes to mind: #gift.

Not just any gift—but the kind that restores freedom, energy, and joy. The kind that gives me back the ability to work full time, to grow in my career, to travel, and to do something as simple and beautiful as swim again. Because of my dialysis catheter, I haven’t been able to submerge in water for years. I dream of the day I can swim freely and wear the clothes I love without worry.

I was only 16 when I was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease. Since then, I’ve been through dialysis three separate times and two transplants that didn’t last. Right now, I’m tethered to dialysis three days a week, each session draining hours from my life and energy from my body. A living donor offers the best hope of a longer-lasting transplant—and a second chance at the life I’ve been fighting for.

That’s what makes this ask so powerful. Becoming a living donor is the most selfless act imaginable. It’s not just medical—it’s transformational. It’s a #gift that literally saves lives.
