A Transplant Will Save My Life

The waitlist for a kidney transplant can take over five years. Knowing that I might spend those years getting sicker, weaker, and more limited—it’s a weight I carry every day. Dialysis keeps me alive, but it’s not living. It’s three days a week of being hooked to a machine, drained physically and emotionally. I’ve had to stop working. I’ve had to put parts of my life on hold.

But I haven’t given up hope.

I’m a husband, a father of two boys, and a son. I’m also a kidney patient at DaVita and with the Utah Kidney Transplant program. What keeps me going is the possibility of finding a living kidney donor – someone who could help me get back to my life much sooner than the waitlist would allow.

A transplant from a living donor means better health outcomes, fewer complications, and the chance to feel like myself again. It means I could travel with my family. I could wake up without dialysis dictating my day. I could be present for my boys in a way I haven’t been able to for a while.
