One of the biggest myths I’ve heard since starting my search is that “many people find a kidney donor right away.” I wish that were true. But the reality is, most people wait—and keep waiting—while their health continues to decline.
Finding a living kidney donor takes time, courage, and a lot of outreach. Right now, there are over 100,000 people in the U.S. waiting for a kidney, and only about 6,000 living donors step forward each year [Source: National Kidney Foundation]. That number is powerful—6,000 people who chose to save a life—but it’s still far from enough.
My name is John, and I’ve been living with kidney disease for eight years. I’m on dialysis three times a week, and it’s taken a real toll. I’m doing everything I can to find a living donor – not because it’s easy, but because it’s the best path forward.
Here’s what gives me hope: Living donation is safe. In fact, most donors go on to live long, healthy lives, and many say they’d do it again if they could. They’re ordinary people who do something extraordinary.
If you’ve ever wondered what it takes—or if you just want to learn more—you can fill out a short, 100% confidential form on my website: https://giftworksuuh.com/johng/. You’ll be connected with a Living Donor Navigator—someone who has already donated—and they’ll walk you through the facts, without pressure.
