Holding Onto Hope

I’m sharing this today in the hope that someone out there might consider becoming my living kidney donor. Living donation is not only safe, but it also gives someone like me the best chance at living a full, vibrant life again. The human body is extraordinary — one healthy kidney can do the work of two. A living donor gift isn’t just life-saving; it’s life-giving.

Doing All That I Can for Amanda

It’s never easy to ask for help, especially when the request is so deeply personal. Amanda has been battling kidney disease since 2021, facing the daily challenges of this illness and all that it brings—fatigue, uncertainty, and the weight of a future that depends on finding a living kidney donor. Currently, Amanda is one of over 100,000 people in the U.S. waiting for a lifesaving kidney transplant. It can take years to find a match, and while she waits, my worry is that her health will only continue to decline. But despite all the hurdles she’s faced, the one thing that remains unwavering is her hope for a better future. I’m hopeful, too.

Dialysis is Not a Better Option

There’s a myth out there that dialysis is better than a kidney transplant, but I want to share why that’s simply not true. Dialysis can keep me alive, but it doesn’t give me the freedom and quality of life I need. I’m on peritoneal dialysis, and while it’s helping my body function, it’s exhausting, limiting, and disruptive. I have to plan my entire day around it.

A Transplant Will Change My Life Forever

My life has become a constant cycle of limitations, and it’s hard to ask for help. But a kidney transplant would change everything. It would allow me to be the mom my son needs, to live without the constant exhaustion, and to have the freedom to enjoy life again.

Each Share Brings Me Closer to Finding My Donor

Living with kidney disease has its challenges every day, and the hardest part? Asking for help. It’s not easy to reach out and say, “I need a donor to save my life.” But I’ve come to realize that I’m not alone in this. The support I’ve received from all of you—sharing my story, spreading the word—makes every step of this journey worth it.

Not Everyone is a Match

I’ve learned that finding a match for a kidney transplant is a challenge. Compatibility isn’t just about willingness—it depends on blood type, tissue compatibility, and other specific medical criteria. In fact, only about 30% of patients find a match from within their own family. This statistic is both eye-opening and heartbreaking, and it’s why I am reaching out to a wider community of potential living donors.

Kindness Turns Darkness into Brightness

Every share, every word of encouragement, and every act of kindness creates ripples that bring us closer to that life-changing connection. I know that not everyone can donate, but you can still help by sharing my story with your friends, family, and social networks. When you pass along my message, you help spread awareness and invite someone who might be able to step forward and be that crucial donor.
