A Fight Beyond the Physical
I’m still waiting for a living kidney donor — someone who can give me a second chance at life. Living donation isn’t just about saving a life. It gives something even deeper: hope, freedom, and time.
I’m still waiting for a living kidney donor — someone who can give me a second chance at life. Living donation isn’t just about saving a life. It gives something even deeper: hope, freedom, and time.
When I received a kidney from my mom back in 1998, it changed everything. That one selfless act gave me nearly 25 beautiful years of health, energy, and life. Now that her kidney is failing and I’m back on dialysis, I’m reminded every day how precious that gift truly was—and how powerful living donation can be.
That’s why finding a living kidney donor for Breeden is so incredibly important. Breeden’s story is remarkable—over 25 years ago, she faced complete kidney failure and received the most beautiful gift from her mom: a kidney that let her live a vibrant, healthy life for decades. But recently, that kidney began to fail, and she is now back on dialysis. While dialysis keeps her alive, it’s draining and shapes every part of her life.
I’ve been living with kidney disease for over 25 years. In 1998, I experienced complete kidney failure. My mom gave me the most selfless #gift I could have ever received—one of her kidneys. That transplant gave me nearly 25 beautiful, healthy years. It let me live a fuller life, spend time with my husband, and simply be me.
Currently, Breeden is one of more than 100,000 people in the U.S. waiting for a lifesaving kidney transplant. It can take years to find a match, and while she waits, my worry is that dialysis will continue to take a toll on her health and quality of life.
Every year, around 6,000 people step forward as living kidney donors, saving lives and giving hope to people like me. In 1998, I faced complete kidney failure and received a lifesaving transplant from my mom. That kidney gave me nearly 25 beautiful, healthy years. Recently, I returned to dialysis, and while I am grateful it keeps me alive, life on dialysis is exhausting, stressful, and limiting. Everything revolves around treatments now.
Waiting for a kidney transplant can take more than five years, and for me, it’s a constant reminder of the uncertainty I face. With each passing day, my health continues to decline as I wait for a donor, a process that feels completely out of my control. It’s a heavy burden that weighs on my body, mind, and spirit.
Every day, I hold onto hope that the right person is out there—someone who can offer the life-saving gift I need. I believe my match is out there, and by sharing my story, you can help me find that person.
Waiting for a deceased donor could take years—years I can’t afford. That’s why I’m asking for your help in spreading the word. Whether you can donate or not, your support can bring me closer to the person who can make all the difference.
In 1998, Breeden got really sick, and it turned out to be complete kidney failure. Thankfully, her mom was able to donate a kidney, giving her a new lease on life. That transplant lasted an incredible 25 years, allowing her to live a relatively normal and healthy life. But now, that kidney has started to fail, and she has been back on dialysis.
Every day I dream of the freedom to simply enjoy time with my loved ones— and activities that my kidney disease has taken away from me. By donating, you not only help me regain my life quickly but also show that modern medicine and your selfless act can work hand in hand. Please share my story; your support is appreciated more than you’ll ever know.
