Chris Needs a
Living Kidney Donor

“To my future kidney donor, your selfless gift will give me the chance to begin anew. Your generosity will give me a fresh start, and I am truly grateful.”

Chris’ Story

Renowned for his unwavering loyalty and devotion to loved ones, 23-year-old Chris faced the shocking news of kidney failure in May 2022. This news has led to immediate dialysis and the search for a living kidney donor. Despite the unforeseen diagnosis of end-stage renal disease, Chris remains optimistic and determined to secure a life-altering kidney donation.

Dialysis treatment has not only disrupted Chris’s daily life, but also put a pause on his beloved activities such as skateboarding, biking, and fishing. Although his brother was willing to donate, they were not a match, compelling Chris to search for a compatible living kidney donor to undergo transplant surgery and reclaim the life he had to set aside.

We Need to Find a Living Donor

The best path forward for Chris is to find a living donor.  Many people do not understand the long-term impact of dialysis, which often leads to further health issues. A living donor transplant will offer the best possible outcome for Chris as research has shown that kidneys from living donors last longer.

Donor Eligibility Requirements

Chris is extremely lucky to have secured highly qualified medical help and support from the team at the University of Utah Health (UUH). He wants any interested persons to know that they will be in exceptional hands should they decide to step forward. UUH has shared the following as a pre-qualification list for donation:

Must be between the age of 18-69 years old.

Must be healthy and free of major health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, obesity (BMI of 37 or less).

Must be mentally and emotionally healthy.

Please Help Me Find a Living Kidney Donor!

Please SHARE – It’s been more than 2 years since I found out that my kidneys were failing and that I would need a kidney transplant. Asking for such a profound gift is incredibly difficult, and it has required me to be deeply vulnerable. However, the urgency of my situation leaves me no choice. My kidney disease is progressing, and I am facing constant health challenges. Every day without a transplant brings new struggles. Although I am on the waitlist for a deceased donor kidney, the reality is that there are over 100,000 people on that list, and it could take more than five years for me to receive a kidney. Time is not on my side. If you’re seeing this, please consider sharing my post. Your support in spreading the word can make an enormous difference.

If you want to become my donor, please complete the contact form on my GiftWorks website: https://giftworksuuh.com/chrisb. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your compassion and support.

Questions & Answers

There are instances where family members are ineligible or not the optimal match for donation, even when family members do step forward.  Sometimes, the best match for a transplant can sometimes come from someone outside immediate family or even unrelated individuals.

While the recipient's insurance will provide coverage for the donor, the donor needs to have their own health insurance in the rare event an unknown health issues comes up for the donor.

While the recipient's insurance covers all costs related to the donation (for Chris and his donor), there are expenses like travel, meals, and lost wages that can be incurred. However, we want you to know there are resources available to ensure you do not have to pay for anything out of pocket. The GiftWorks' team can provide more information about those resources if you choose to step forward as a living donor.

Living kidney donors are often able to return to work within 2 weeks, and fully heal within 6-8 weeks. After surgery, the donor’s remaining kidney will also grow in size and function, allowing them to live normal life with just one kidney.

The following are pre-qualification requirements for living donation: must be between the age of 18-69 years old, must be healthy and free of major health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and obesity (BMI of 37 or less), and must be mentally and emotionally healthy.

If Chris doesn't find a donor, he would likely have to endure the lengthy wait on the kidney transplant list, which could significantly prolong his suffering and increase the risk of complications associated with his condition.
