Doing All That I Can for Amanda

It’s never easy to ask for help, especially when the request is so deeply personal. Amanda has been battling kidney disease since 2021, facing the daily challenges of this illness and all that it brings—fatigue, uncertainty, and the weight of a future that depends on finding a living kidney donor. Currently, Amanda is one of over 100,000 people in the U.S. waiting for a lifesaving kidney transplant. It can take years to find a match, and while she waits, my worry is that her health will only continue to decline. But despite all the hurdles she’s faced, the one thing that remains unwavering is her hope for a better future. I’m hopeful, too.

Amanda is a loving mother to her 7-year-old son, and her biggest wish is to be able to run and play with him again without running out of breath. This condition has disrupted not only her life but her family’s daily routine. She is a hardworking woman who still manages to work full-time, all while undergoing peritoneal dialysis at home every night. Despite these challenges, Amanda’s optimism and determination shine through, and she’s not giving up hope for a transplant.

Here’s something I recently learned that’s really cool: when someone donates a kidney, the remaining kidney grows to take over the full function needed for the body. It’s incredible how the body adapts to provide such a profound gift.

As Amanda’s advocate, I’m here to help spread the word and ask anyone who can, to consider becoming a living kidney donor. Every share, every conversation, and every connection brings us closer to finding a match. Please take a moment to read Amanda’s story and help us spread the word.
