Fact: “Many people can spend months or even years on the transplant list.” (Source: American Kidney Fund)
The waiting list can feel like an endless road of uncertainty. Every day spent waiting is another day where my body feels weaker and more drained by kidney disease. The toll it takes on my energy and overall well-being is hard to describe. For many of us, this wait stretches out for months or even years, and the physical strain only grows during that time.
The longer I wait for a kidney transplant, the more my health declines due to the prolonged dialysis I have to rely on while waiting for a donor. Dialysis is just a temporary fix, but it comes with its own set of challenges. The longer I stay on it, the higher my risk for complications like heart problems, a weakened immune system, bone disease, and anemia. The emotional toll is also hard to ignore. The anxiety, stress, and constant uncertainty can take a real toll on my mental well-being and overall quality of life. As I continue waiting, my need for a living donor becomes even more urgent. Living donor transplants usually offer better outcomes and shorter wait times than deceased donor transplants, making the possibility of a living donor transplant a critical lifeline for me.
If you’re considering being a living donor, please know that you have the power to change someone’s life and remove them from that long wait. You can help people like me regain our energy, our health, and our ability to live without the constant cloud of kidney disease hanging over us. You can make a huge difference, even by sharing this post. www.giftworksuuh.com/xxx
